MY SPECIALTIES

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING

My background in Marriage and Family Therapy and Systems training allows me to look at the individual through a holistic lens, since to think systemically  is to acknowledge that we live in a network of relationships that impact our daily lived experience.  I explore how caregiver attachment and early formative experiences may be influencing us to this day without our conscious awareness. We also explore our internal system to discover the belief systems, thought patterns, emotions and wounds that are interacting to create blockages in our life.

I utilize an integrative approach to therapy, combining cognitive, behavioral, and mindfulness strategies and creative modalities with interpersonal theories. I customize the treatment to the individual.  I am trained in EMDR and utilize somatic and visualization tools. Therapy will be an eclectic process.

In therapy we will:

  • Teach you how to redesign mental blueprints that keep you stuck

  • Uncover what is holding you back by providing insight, resources, and support.

  • Explore past including Family of origin to build awareness

  • Learn mindfulness strategies to help with anxiety symptoms

  • Utilize visualization strategies

  • Utilize empirically validated tools and modalities to process and rework trauma or emotional wounds

I love helping people establish a healthy relationship with themselves because I believe that the stronger the relationship with self, the more you will start taking action around love and relationships that honor you as the smart, loveable and worthy person you are.

COUPLES THERAPY

I have 10 years of experience working with couples across all walks of life from newly coupled to coupled for 20+ years and everything in between.

I believe there are several pillars to relational satisfaction: Communication, respect, affection, play/fun, vulnerability, good repair mechanisms, and sexual intimacy.

Dissatisfaction may exist due a lack of any/ or a combination of the above. Therapy will be geared towards strengthening each of those pillars.

In my time working with couples, I have seen the damaging effects of unrepaired relational injuries. Over time, these injuries fester and either build resentment, compound other moments of conflict or leads to emotional distance. Therapy gives couples a safe space to begin the important process of repairing current and/or past wounds.

I will also help couples develop an understanding of each other's inner workings and use this knowledge for each other's benefit.  We will explore ways to meet each other's needs as well as work to transform conflict into opportunities for deeper intimacy and connection.  We will look at the themes that continue to repeat in conflict and find new solutions for those issues while communicating from vulnerability rather than from defensive or protective mechanisms.

I utilize various theoretical orientations and tailor therapy to the couple. Some of those theoretical orientations include attachment theory, Emotion Focused Therapy, Imago Therapy, and Gottman Therapy.
